Rule 8: No Mary Sues (or Gary Stu)

You are not special. You are limited to what can be done in game. You cannot fly, you cannot walk through walls. If the game doesn’t permit it than you cannot do it. The mark of a beginner RPer is someone who wants to make their character a hero or someone the whole world will be in awe of, like a son of Uther or an angel or a daemon or anything. This being said, it is important to set yourself apart with small everyday differences. Perhaps you character is missing an eye or fingers. Or perhaps she stutters or is very keen on knowing everything she can about the Naaru. Be known as a good RPer for making the subtle things stick in people’s minds. Accents, anger issues, excellence with spells or crafts are great. People remember those, people forget the “chosen” person or the “savior of everyone”.
